Cats

Cats love sisal scratching posts....

It must be that moggies love sisal, at one point as a result of my kids adopting kittens and gratuities from my customers we had upto six cats, here is one of them. His name is Bubble and was the result of my son baby sitting for some friends.

Unfortunately  most of them are now time expired but we still have Bubble and his friend Dillon. Dillon was a tip given to my daughter in law when still my son's girfriend, they are now married with two daughters but we still have Dillon.

This preamble is just to get you in the mood for the introduction the topic of  by-products,the first one being  scratching posts.

Click here for a company which produces them for cats!

When I was fitting and my little boy came with me (28 now 6ft+ and built like a brick one) , I loved it when they had feline pets because when he was getting bored with the job I would get him to make a  scratching post
.

He would cut down the cardboard tube from a carpet core (4m long 15cm dia)cover it with waste,  attach one end to a piece of wood and ...et  voila one pole for cats to sharpen their claws.

At this particular time he was about 12 and I had a big installation to do  in a big farmhouse . As it was the school holidays I said he could come and help for some extra spending money.

After several hours there was not much for him to do so after talking to the customer about her pets.  She explained that she had four  persian blues that were going stir crazy, because she was locking them in one room.   They were new to the house and she didn't want to let them loose just yet.

My sons job at the time was mainly keeping the site clear of rubbish which I have to say he normally did remarkably well but on this job the bits disappeared totally. I just thought that he had found somewhere to dump them.

When the job was finished the customer paid me and then gave my son a rather generous tip. I thought what has he been up to the little monkey!. The customer obviously saw my look of surprise because she said , would I like to see what he had done.

So we went to have a look !

In two days he had built a high rise catappartment.......

He had cut the tubes to fit floor to ceiling incorporated some cardboard boxes with holes cut out of them. Then covered the lot in waste.

The customer told me later that the her pets liked them so much it took her ages to get them to go outside.

He doesn't have time to make them for cats anymore but these people do. Click here
